Installation Done Right, From Subfloor Up

F&S Hardwood Floors technician installing solid hardwood flooring in a Denver metro home

A hardwood floor is only as good as its installation. Since 2013, F&S Hardwood Floors has installed solid wood, engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank across the Denver metro. Denver, Thornton, Boulder, Highlands Ranch, Centennial and Aurora: with the preparation steps that make floors last in Colorado's dry climate: proper subfloor work, real acclimation time, and craftsman-level attention on every board.

Choosing the Right Floor

Solid hardwood is the classic: real wood through and through, refinishable for generations, and the biggest boost to resale value. Best for main living areas and bedrooms above grade.

Engineered hardwood is real wood over a stable core: it handles Colorado's humidity swings and concrete slabs better than solid wood, making it the right call for basements and homes on slab foundations.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is fully waterproof and extremely durable: ideal for kitchens, mudrooms, rentals and busy homes with pets. Today's LVP looks remarkably close to real wood at a lower cost.

Not sure? That's what the free estimate is for: we look at your rooms, your subfloor and your lifestyle and recommend what actually fits, not what's most expensive.

Our Installation Process

1. In-home estimate: we measure, inspect the subfloor and give you a firm price. 2. Acclimation: wood is delivered days ahead so it adjusts to your home's humidity: the step that prevents gaps and cupping in Colorado. 3. Preparation: old floor removal, subfloor repair and leveling. 4. Installation: precise cutting and placement, tight seams, clean transitions. 5. Walkthrough: we review every room with you before we call it done.

We keep the site clean daily, protect adjacent rooms, and haul away all debris: you get new floors, not a construction zone.

Installation: Common Questions

How long does hardwood floor installation take?

Most installations take 2–4 days of on-site work once the wood has acclimated, depending on square footage and prep needed. We give you a day-by-day schedule with your estimate.

Why does wood need to acclimate before installation?

Colorado air is dry, and wood shipped from humid warehouses will shrink after installation if it isn't allowed to adjust first: leaving gaps between boards. We deliver materials ahead of time and verify moisture content before installing. It's the single most skipped step by low-bid installers.

Can hardwood be installed in a basement?

Solid hardwood generally shouldn't go below grade, but engineered hardwood and LVP are made for it. Both handle the moisture and temperature conditions of Colorado basements beautifully.

Do you remove the old flooring?

Yes: carpet, tile, laminate or old wood. Removal, disposal and subfloor preparation are all included in your written estimate.
